Expressionism of German

Commonly speaking, the word Expressionism is understood to designate a period of German culture spanning the years from 1905 to 1933, although by 1920 a reaction against it had begun. German Expressionism was typical in literature on the time, expressing conflict among generations, a conflict which dominated the cultural sphere (Joachimides). Expressionist writers which influenced the painters embraced views and attitudes tending toward the melancholy, fixation on death and feelings of hopelessness and alienation, yet also just like rapturous affirmation of life and celebration of the earth and humanity. These influences resulted in paintings leaning toward the variety of abstraction, intense color, and Primitivism (Ibid.). The expression of emotion was of main significance in this work. Literature as well as the visual arts were much more closely linked than they have been in any other period since that time. They launched a crucial onslaught against the bourgeois order, the authority from the state, and also the industrialization.

He had formerly been exposed to drawing instruction and with course of action improved his representation ability. He wrote of these efforts--"I drew inside streets and squares, in inns and cafes...and gradually got into practice. The figures came alive and stayed correctly on the plane ... I checked this against the drawings from the old masters ... Was it possibly possible in this manner to produce an art, understandable to all ..." (Gordon 19). By 1909 Kirchner had created a language of symbolic form. He utilized the fewest feasible strokes to render the composition, departing somewhat from nature. He referred to as his abbreviated anatomical types "hieroglyphs." Post 6 of this paper shows reproductions of two of Kirchner's works. One can view Kirchner's strokes like a sort of visual shorthand that suggests a number of shapes but not necessarily literally portraying them.

Of the economy. Young individuals attacked the schools, the church and also the military. They had been angry at the contradictions of feudal aristocracy, overly-indulgent nationalism, and an irrational global mission of globe power. Expressionism, therefore, was synonymous with criticism of political and cultural problems in Germany.
