HISTORY OF THE PORUS SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH FROM SHADOW (1930) TO GLORY (2011) The Porus one-seventh Day Adventist Church started in the early 1930s in a small district called Whitney Turn-Porus, Manchester. It is believed that this group was initiated by the Crosbys with less than twenty members. The church was located beside a sport station owned by one Charlie Thompson. This location was actually comfortable and quiet. The ambiance at Whitney Turn was remarkable. Some of the behind members were- Wendel Siddon, Eva Johnson, Samuel Messam, Luther Daley, Uriah Ellison, Lydia Daley, Brother McCourtie and Joseph Durrant. Based on information received the rector who served tat the time was Pastor Nation. In the late 40s into early 50s the church was relocate because the membership kept growing.Land purchased and a structure erected at the enchant of Clarks town Road. Things got worse after the members settled in their newly built structure. Worship services on Sabbaths were often huffy by loud music and other unpleasant sounds which came from a bar/shop next door owned by one Mr. Richie. He hated Adventist so he didnt care less.

However some of the most pleasant memories and pleasurable programmes were at this location- the launching of the Pathfinder Club (SPICA), Missionary inform programmes (MV), Cook outs and well attended Sunday and Wednesday nights meetings. Pathfinders and Master Guides The encumbrance level became unbearable and in 1970 the location at Clarks Town road was sold and the money given to the conference. In the identical class Pastor Solomon Reid along with elders William Miller and Wendel Siddon, treasurer Luther Daley, topic deacon Joseph Durrant and head deaconess Doris Dwyer spotted a piece of ground on Old Porus road which they purchased. In this same year Pastor Zedac Reid who was a builder, Earl Durrant, Joseph McLean (Keith), Lester McLean, Lorren Siddon and John Durrant lined out the building....
