April 20, 1999, a day in history that lead go through for umteen years to come. Two high school seniors held an all-out assault on Columbine High school. Many were killed and umpteen more injured. The boys committing this heinous act employ two shotguns, a rifle and a TEC-9 handgun. The questions many have asked are; how did these children jerk off these guns? Are our gun laws too lenient? Of course, many politicians used this unfortunate consequent to further a political life history and suggest tighter gun-laws would have prevented this incident. But is that true? Would tighter gun-laws have prevented this incident? Even though politicians have said gun manoeuvre takes weapons off the streets of America and reduces crime; gun control does not put a stop to violent crime or shooting deaths. Statistics show that gun control does not consistently reduce crime but completely keeps guns out of the manpower of law abiding citizens, not criminals. There are many myths and misconceptions the public has about gun-control. There is a vast lying that once a right-to- stock law is established, violent crime will increase. In the United States of America, there are several states with a right-to-carry law. Within those states crime is reportedly lower than states without the same law. ane such state is the State of Florida.
In 1987, when the State of Florida pick out a right-to-carry law, homicide rates dropped substantially. Between the years of 1987 and 1996, homicide rates dropped amidst 36% and 41% (Agresti, 2008). Between October 1987 and April 1994, over 221,000 licenses were issued to individuals wanting to carry a concealed weapon. Within those seven years, Florida experienced only 18 crimes involving individuals that carried a licensed firearm (Lott, Mustard, 1996).
