Concentration Camp Sourcework Essay In Source 5 Reitlinger says that more than a hundred thousand people must have known. If this is correct then why did no-one take the blame for it at the end of the war? Or even do anything to help the Jews? How well supported this claim is depends on the other sources. Source two agrees with Reitlingers claim as it says All the same rumours did circulate about dreadful deeds in the East this concurs with had not heard the same story in Reitlingers source. Also in Source 2 it says Because of the Nazis much publicised resettlement plans this again agrees with Jews had disappeared in Reitlingers source. In conclusion Reitlinger is supported, by Source 2, about rumours being spread and that people had seen Jews disappear. Source three is a very neutral source to the credibility of Reitlingers as it says Workers at an extermination centre in Austria were told Keep quiet about this or face the death penalty' this almost contradicts what Reitlinger says about people knowing about the camps. If the workers in the camps were threatened with their lives then would the hardly gossip to neighbours? Also in source three is says that when the crematoria were turned on it caused a power- outage outside Dachau, the people would obviously notice if their power was turned off so this supports Reitlingers claims. Source 6 contains much information and it supports Reitlingers claims as it contains information concerning an SS man declaring on a train that 2000 Jews were being murdered every week at Auschwitz if this SS man was concerned about secrecy would he have said it on a busy train? Source 6 also goes into some detail about the BBC laughing a broadcast campaign on the extermination of the Jews which provided information for any Germans that held a radio and it also says that The leaflets dropped by Allied planes also relayed information on the annihilation policy I think that the German people would have had enough information to confirm the rumours they might have heard. Source 8 contradicts Reitlinger as it says All swore that during the past few years they had no idea what had been going on in the camp outside their town this is important to note as the people themselves are saying they hadnt heart anything. There is a possibility that they could have been lying or faking their knowledge of the situation as evidence shows the general knowledge of people living around the camps. Source 10 supports Reitlinger as the author says The Jews are disappearing in throngs this matches with Source 5s not know most of the Jews had disappeared I would have to conclude that Reitlinger was probably correct in his estimate of German knowledge of the concentration camps as a good portion of the evidence in the sources tells us that it is plausible to estimate figures as grand as a hundred thousand people. I think many of the Germans did in fact know about the camps either by the rumours or by radio or by information pamphlets and therefore it begs the question as to why they didnt do anything to help the suffering Jews. Were they afraid of the strict penalties? Some had put their lives on the line by telling people about the camps why didnt they do anything? The answer to this is that although the people may have known there was nothing that they could have done to stop it completely and therefore could not be really held responsible for not helping.

The assessment framework for children in need and their families consists of gathering information that could potentially be important to look at. Social services would then evaluate the material which has been collected, and discuss whether or not it is valuable. Then decisions would need to be made on how the social services can support the family in need. The assessment needs to be centred on the child, and what is best for them. The assessment should also build on strengths and not focus purely on the negatives. It also needs to be holistic, taking everything into account (where the family lives, what benefits they are getting, what are their neighbours like etc.). It is also a continuing process; the assessment is not a ââ¬Ëone offââ¬â¢. Social services don't have to help all families with children but they do have a duty to look into your situation to check what help you are entitled to. Social services can provide help for a family, like a placement in a playground or nursery for an infant; they can help with problems with schools or childcare. Social services can also help with a childââ¬â¢s behaviour, and help with any drug or alcohol problems. They can offer friendship and support, and if it is needed, counselling can be offered. A family could be entitled to housing and/or financial support from social services if someone in the family is under the age of 18 and is classed as a ââ¬Ëchild in needââ¬â¢. The child, or children, should be considered as a ââ¬Ëchild in needââ¬â¢ if he or she needs help to manage the things that affect health and development (the Children Act 1989). Examples of which could be lack of money or food, not having accommodation, problems that may affect health or education, or that the child is living with a violent person... ...lves. It is important for children that they are provided with an encouraging and secure environment in both the home and in school. Children need to feel that their parents and teachers value learning. If kids are shown that academic exploration is important, they are likely to develop similar attitudes. Furthermore, it is important to let kids know that failure is often part of the learning process. Kids who are not afraid to fail are more willing to accept scholastic challenges and are less likely to interrupt their own academic efforts. It is also important for kids to have plenty of support at home. The home environment shapes the initial attitudes that children have towards learning. However there are professionals that are available, such as counsellors and psychologists, both in and out of school, paediatricians, and state psychological associations.

Compare and Contrast ââ¬ËHarry Pushed Herââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËHector the Collectorââ¬â¢ Essay
Neither ââ¬ËHarry Pushed Herââ¬â¢ nor ââ¬ËHector the Collectorââ¬â¢ have any stanzas. In ââ¬ËHarry Pushed Herââ¬â¢ the lines are short, most containing around five syllables. The rhyme scheme changes throughout, from every other line rhyming to rhyming couplets. This changes the flow of the poem. I think the writer does this to emphasize points, to shock the reader at times and to change the mood of the poem. ââ¬Å"Harry push her, push her now!/Harry push the crazy cow!â⬠, the flow of this emulates the mocking tone of children. ââ¬ËHector the Collectorââ¬â¢ has a mixture of long and short lines, ranging from six syllables to ten syllables. It has a regular rhyme scheme in quatrains, this creates a steady course and speed throughout. Both poems are focused on people who are not always correctly understood, they are seen as ââ¬Ëdifferentââ¬â¢ by many. People donââ¬â¢t have the same outlook as they do and therefore they are cast aside. In ââ¬ËHarry Pushed Herââ¬â¢ our first impressions are that Harry bullies his sister. We think this because the poem reads, ââ¬Å"Harry pushed her;/He pushed his sister;â⬠the reader automatically comes to the conclusion that Harry pushes her in a violent way. The repetition of the word ââ¬Å"pushâ⬠is very effective as it implies to the reader that Harry is an incessant bully. We donââ¬â¢t know or even suspect, until the last line that heââ¬â¢s pushing his sister in a helpful way. We donââ¬â¢t anticipate this, it comes as a shock to the reader. We think of young boys as bullies, and we count on them to push their sisters violently because of the stereotypical images we have. The author cleverly shows us how we prejudge him unfairly. In ââ¬ËHector the Collectorââ¬â¢ the poet also uses repetition to good effect as he creates an excessive list of useless items. This creates the impression of Hector as an eccentric character. It tells us that he ââ¬Å"Loved these things with all his soul/more than glistening diamonds/more than glisteninââ¬â¢ goldâ⬠creating an image for the reader of Hector as a lonely man who only has his possessions as company. I think that in both poems the people that are seen as different have different reasons for being outcasts. In ââ¬ËHarry Pushed Herââ¬â¢ I think Harry gets some sort of escapism from pushing his sister in her wheelchair, ââ¬Å"Harry pushed her without a careâ⬠. This lifestyle protects him from the pressures of other children his own age. He traps himself in his own little world where he feels safe and peaceful. While in ââ¬ËHector the Collectorââ¬â¢ Hector enjoys his items and has a different perspective of them to others. He thinks of these things as a, ââ¬Å"treasure trunkâ⬠and offers others to share the delights he gets out of them, while others dismiss it as junk. The speaker calls the people ââ¬Å"sillyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"sightlessâ⬠telling the reader that the people are small minded and foolish because they canââ¬â¢t look any further than face value. I think that Hector sees that although they are useless, they were once useful and he feels they donââ¬â¢t deserve to be thrown away. I think this is a metaphor of todayââ¬â¢s society, as we live in a disposable society and Hector is trying to escape from it. The poems also contrast slightly. Harry pushes people away he wants to be a ââ¬Ëlonerââ¬â¢. He rejects others, rather than them rejecting him. He is not understood and doesnââ¬â¢t need to be. Hector on the other hand invites people to be his friends, to share his belongings, but they reject him.

The definition of home is a subjective topic that I will only be able to touch the rim of for the word goes far beyond what is written. Home can be a lot of different things. Home can mean a whole lot of things to a whole lot of people. It can be the place the you grew. It can be the place where you sleep at night. Home can be here and there. Home can quite frankly be anywhere. Home can be a structured place with a roof and a bed. Home can be a place you just stepped into or in can be a place you have lived your entire life. Home can be a country, a state, a city, or a street address. Home can be a person or group of people, and your home consists of wherever they are. Home can simply be your family. It can be where you are most comfortable or at peace. It can be where your heart longs to be or where it in the literal since is at. Home can be many different things. So, what is the definition of home?
