Minstrel Shows
One puts on nasty robe to scare the hell come in of white people, fleck the other puts on white robes to scare the hell out of blacks (Blacks Quotes & Quotation). From the 1600s to the 1960s blacks were portrayed as being capable and misinformed. Minstrel Shows are defined as an entertainment featuring songs, dance, and clowning which was usually performed by white actors in blackface. Blackface is makeup with all a layer of burnt cork on a layer of coca butter or black dirty word paint (Blackface). These stereotypes continue today such as Boondocks, The Cleveland Show, and guiltless Disney Pixar movies are modern day entertainment based on racist stereotypes.
Minstrel shows are an imitation and often distasteful exaggeration of African-American culture, and speech physical traits for entertainment. During the time of the poet-singer shows, blacks were considered as coons. Thomas Dartmouth Daddy Rice was considered the father of poet-singersy. In 1828, Thomas developed a song-and-dance routine where he impersonated an old, crippled black slave he knew named Jim Crow. He was a fight actor at the Park Theater in untried York. Rice was one of the first performers to wear blackface makeup.

Rice, and his imitators, by their conventional depictions of blacks, helped to popularize the belief that Blacks were lazy, stupid, inherently less human, and unworthy of integration. During the old age that Blacks were being victimize by lynch mobs, they were also victimized by the racist caricatures propagated through novels, sheet music, theatrical plays, and minstrel shows. Ironically, years later when blacks replaced white minstrels, the blacks also blackened their faces, thereby pretending to be whites pretending to be blacks. They, too, performed the Coon Shows which change Blacks and helped establish the desirability of racial segregation (Who Was Jim Crow). Thomas became exuberant off the shows, but died in poverty.
