Back in 2nd grade most of my contemporaries thought of vampires to be scary creatures that lived in the dark and sucked breed of any human they could to stay young. Fast forward to 2010 and you make out over a million teenage girlfriends screaming the produce Edward during nonsense vampire movies. The way we view vampires has changed drastically over time. Thomas Foster states that these blood sucking demons such as Dracula be evil and that evil has everything to do with put forward. (Foster 16) Although in many cases evil does have to do with sex such as rape, I dont believe it has everything to do with sex.
During the Victorian era when all of these vampire stories were emerging in literature, Foster writes that since they couldnt directly write around sex and sexuality, they found ways of transforming those taboo subjects and issues into other forms. (Foster 17) This may be true however he goes on to say that yet today people write about vampires, ghosts, and werewolves to symbolize something that recrudesce out imply something sexual. Since I was an avid reader of Twilight, I will have to defend my beloved novel and say it wasnt all just about sex. There was evil in it but it wasnt about some creepy ancient guy that wanted to take a young girls virginity. Ghosts and vampires are never only about ghosts and vampires.



In a Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge is helped to see the error of his ways by the ghost of his former colleague Jacob Marley, and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come. The grade is definitely not about evil or sex.
So in the end, Thomas Fosters statement that vampires and ghosts are all evil and have to do with sex is all false in the way that not all stories about ghosts have to do with symbolizing something like sex. They can alone be just about vampires and ghosts.
