This essay considers the validity of the proposal that a young cleaning lady is most in need of spring, non love, in similarity to Evelina and Pride and Prejudice. The proposition is an inversion of the opening line in Pride and Prejudice - that it is a universally acknowledged rectitude that a single man of fortune must be in neediness of a wife.
