As I read the article America, Found and deep in thought(p) from the National Geographic web state of affairs I found it to be super interesting and well put together. The main point of the site was to inform readers ab kayoed new discoveries that were made from when the Europeans settled in the New World. That, in fact worms were actually brought over by these men. Also how the normal everyday purport was changed when the Europeans came over.
The author points out that from grade school students were taught that Europeans came over and settled on unwanted land that had a pristine forest of ancient trees, atrophied bands of Indians gliding, silent as ghosts, ben runh the canopy but from the facts presented in the article it was proven wrong. The worms literally changed the ground beneath the Indians feet. backdrop up camp on marshy Jamestown peninsula, the colonists were taking the beginning steps toward creating the American landscape we know today (Mann 2). The worms would eat a way the leaf litter which caused the forest to become much open and dry, losing much of its understory, including tree seedlings. The incline cleared this vacant land to plant tobacco, but instead of abandoning fields as they were depleted, gave them over to cattle and horses. Rather than cycle the land between farm and forest, they divided it into parcels and kept them in continuous agricultural use (Mann 6). This process affected the Indians way of life and their entire cultural system in which they were brought up in.
