Through his brief friendship with Dumby Red, Blacky learns all important(p) lessons active human dignity, racism, justice, death, courage, family and friendship. It is by dint of his friendship with Dumby and Clarence that he learns to see things from their delegate of view. This allows him to grow as a person and develop situation on life and human relationships, something that is lacking throughout the broader community.

Blacky learns an important lesson about racism, when Blacky and Clarence sat down in the shed Blacky was daunted when he saw the graffiti on the jetty. He didnt feel comfortable, and he felt guilty even though he didnt write it .Blacky didnt really perplexity much about racism but after see the graffiti on the jetty, he became more concerned and cognizant of it. Blacky learns that racism should not occur in the community or anywhere else.
