Abstract: Microfinance has play a very pregnant purpose in the upliftment of the sylvan poor, marginalised and the women. Though microfinance can be disbursed by dint of a twist of institutions and agencies, studies show that their efforts have given best results when the finance has been channelised through the Self-help groups (SHGs). This paper presents a brief picture of microfinancing efforts in India with special(a) reference to SHGs and highlights the development that has taken place by the channelization of microfinance through them.

INTRODUCTION:

India is a country of villages and coarse development forms a very important part of the Governments developmental efforts. Microfinance is an important tool in rural development. While a number of agencies and institutions are involved in the disbursement of microfinance, Self-help groups (SHGs) are found to play an important role in this regard.
