1.1Background to the study
Conflicts be inevitable among human groups especially in the organized work sectors. Thus, Nigeria has recorded several forms and cases of industrial actions all over the past years proceedsing from disagreement between employers of force and labour organizations. The educational sub-sectors generally and tertiary institutions in particular, have non been spared. Hence, Anosike (2009) acknowledged that the schoolman supply Union of Universities (ASUU), Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), besides to mention but a few, are among the unions that have embarked on frequent industrial actions in recent times.
Kolawole, (2012) opined that smite is a righteousness of workers and a reflection of their fundamental human rights - rights that are guaranteed by the constitution. Nevertheless, he warns that the issue of strike is very raw and has to be handled carefully. Owing to strike actions sensitivity, he advised that workers right to embark on strike should be modified in the interest of the people (students inclusive) who suffer each time workers, in the exercise of their rights, embark on strike actions.
