In chapter 7 of A Short hap to Writing About Art, the marxist and feminist draw close to art criticism is discussed. In the chapter, they wrote that this lord would postulate art to depict him as being in melodic line with nature, or being a keeper of Gods gift to valet as to justify his power to himself. I do believe, however, that these social cues that can be taken from the works of art are largely subconscious.
I think in anything of meaning that human beings can create will reflect their time, place, and relation to society. I also found interesting the section on sexual practice criticism, especially the fact that although 85% of the nudes in the Museum of Modern Art are female, less than 5% of the artists in the whole museum are female. That, however, is partially because until fairly recently there were no tumid female artists, and so there is no female-oriented tradition for women to sort off of.
